Description

AKF Walk|Run is a national event to raise awareness and funds in the fight against global poverty. It is an initiative of Aga Khan Foundation U.S.A. (AKF USA) and its network of volunteers across the U.S. As recent news stories report, citizens in the U.S. and around the globe have become increasingly concerned with making poverty history to ensure greater peace and security for all people.

Now in its 22th year in the U.S., AKF Walk|Run gives individuals the opportunity to actively take part in advancing human dignity and peace around the globe through volunteerism, awareness-raising and contributions. Since 1995, AKF Walk|Run events have attracted over 440,000 participants and raised over $85 million nationwide. For more information, visit http://www.akfusa.org and see what makes our effort unique. For example:

100% of funds raised at AKF Walk|Run go directly to the projects supported by the Aga Khan Foundation; not a cent is spent on administrative costs. AKF USA is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service code.
This is the only Walk in the U.S. where donations help end global poverty. Through community-based self-help programs we are making steady strides in helping people to help themselves.
The programs of Aga Khan Foundation have gone a long way to ensure that more girls go to school in Afghanistan, children in East Africa and India are immunised, and farmers in Tajikistan and Pakistan become self-reliant.

More than an event, the Walk underscores the connections that local members of our community are building with communities around the globe to create a safer and healthier world.
