Description

The AfroSolo Theatre Company celebrates its 20th Annual AfroSolo Arts Festival; a celebration of African American artists giving voice to the Black experience.

Founded in 1993, AfroSolo's mission is to nurture, promote and present African American art and culture through solo performances, and the visual and literary arts. Because of the disparity in health matters in our community, we made a bold decision to make Black Health the theme of this year's festival. Our solo artists will unite with health and medical professionals to promote health, prevent disease and provide incentives to develop healthy habits in the African American Community. We will focus on health in general, but pay particular attention to breast cancer, diabetes, HIV/AIDS and prostate cancer.

The festival, founded by Artistic Director Thomas Robert Simpson, will present works in the mediums of performance and visual arts. AfroSolo Arts Festival will present:

* free outdoor jazz concerts in Yerba Buena Gardens
* curate a visual arts exhibition
* a solo performance series
