Description
The Emerald Tablet Salon Presents Afghan Author, Poet, Bashir Sakhawarz Reading From His New Book: "Maargir The Snake Charmer"About the book
:Maargir The Snake Charmer" narrates a deeply moving story of two brothers at the time of the Russian invasion whose conflict in ideologies threatens to divide their family. Told with humor and authenticity of the tragedies that haunt present day Afghanistan; the importance of Islam as a controlling force; the upheaval and destruction caused by the Russian and American wars; the rise of the Taliban and global terrorism. Bashir Sakhawarz's writing captures the political and philosophic lyricism of the revered Afghan poet, Rumi. A relevant and human story that draws the reader to look beyond the headlines but also gives a limpse into a culture rarely known.
