Description
NOMA GALLERY presents a group exhibition of paintings engaged in a complex exploration of symbiotic states. Extending from an initial theme of the abstract and the real, a rich structure of dualistic relationships brings together the visual symbologies of many interdependent pairings: subject/object, intention/perception, interior/dimension, percipient/perceived and most importantly, classical/modern.Just as light and dark define each other to disclose much more than the identity of two apparently opposing states, so too does the dialogue of the real and the abstract in the paintings bring the viewer to the subjective intersection of empirical and transcendent worlds. From rigorous classical beginnings in Europe, these artists have broken reality to produce paintings of modern interpretation and vital contemporary relevance, establishing symbioses of different times, places and sensibilities.
