Description
Known for his outlandish and often debaucherous club photography, Norris has created a new body of work whose cast of characters is all too familiar. They are the “Bootycall” crew; the motley group of costume clad queer men who pass before his lens at the weekly Castro party. Yet here, Norris ditches the constructed sets, the props, and the costumes in an attempt to expand on the deeper soul of his subjects. Where once narratives were formed in the hazy eyes of party-goers, in the new work it is in the scarred skin and transparent eyes where the stories unfold. Post-production work yields a lovingly glazed Renaissance-like sfmato, resulting in a sultry allure that initiates a sobering subject-viewer dialogue.<< http://www.brandonnorrisphotography.com >>
The opening reception will feature a site-specific performance by FACT/SF, a San Francisco-based contemporary dance-theatre company founded by Charles Slender in 2008. << http://www.factsf.org >>
