A Place to Stand is one of the first projects of Intersection's Prison Project, a year long broad based multi-disciplinary exploration of the California Prison System. Throughout 2007 and early 2008, a unique mix of artists, scholars, and activists will work together to explore one of the seminal issues of our times. The Prison Project includes state-wide outreach and research, a series of workshops, community conversations, story projects, as well as the world premieres of new works by Howard Wiley and the Angola Prison Project; Erika Shuch and the ESP Project; and simultaneous visual arts exhibitions at San Francisco State University and Intersection for the Arts. Working with an esteemed Community Advisory Board, we will also be hosting quarterly public forums that bring together the activists, scholars, and artists who are at the forefront of this charged and complex issue...
