Description
The name “Judy Davis” in a movie’s opening credits can make an audience brighten on sight—knowing that whatever else, when she’s onscreen things will snap into vivid focus. Like certain beloved familiar faces from Hollywood’s “Golden Age,” she brings a wit, intensity and keen intelligence to supporting parts that often wind up compelling more interest than those they support. And when her thrumming energy dominates a project, as it has many over the last thirty-five years, the whole becomes luminescent with a quicksilver instability. Nothing Davis does is ever predictable or safe, and the larger the opportunity, the more one wonders at the restless ferocity of her commitment, skill and originality.Join the Festival for a very special award night celebrating the career of Judy Davis, one of cinema's great acting talents. Named for the longtime San Francisco benefactor of arts and charitable organizations, Peter J. Owens (1936–1991), this award honors an actor whose work exemplifies brilliance, independence and integrity. The evening will include a clip reel of career highlights and an onstage interview with Davis, followed by a screening of her recent film 'The Eye of the Storm'.
