With Radiohead in town this week, it's interesting to go back and listen to AmpLive's "Rainydayz Remixes" of In Rainbows, the project that pretty much made his name as a DJ. (Radiohead initially served up a cease-and-desist order, but then backed off.) It's essential listening not only for Radiohead and hip-hop fans, but anyone who can appreciate how good songwriting holds up to many different interpretations. The way Thom Yorke's vocals are played off of Del the Funky Homosapien's rapping on "Video Tapez" was groudbreaking at the time and is still riveting. Not surprisingly, one of the best guest appearances comes on "Nudez" from MC Zumbi, AmpLive's partner in Zion I. These two just get each other, and they've developed a similar chemistry with the Grouch, who will join them once again at this show. - Steve Palopoli sanjose.com
