Yoju’s popular watercolor and mixed media paintings of cats have received acclaim and attention from art lovers worldwide. Through her whimsical, intricate, colorful and wonderous paintings she manages to capture the essence of the world around us. Her images of cats expresses in human terms, the personality and character of the common domestic cat, and many of her cat images have been ‘adopted’ by art lovers worldwide. Her paintings have been featured on the Japanese Mainichi Shinbun web site entitled “Cats World”, at “La Galerie Paris” in Yokohama, Japan, in the publication “International Artist” and exhibited in various art galleries in California and throughout the United States.
Born in Hokkaido, Japan, and raised in Tokyo, Yoju first expressed an interest in art at the age of 4. She began formal study at the age of 8 at the Maejima Academy of Art, Tokyo where she continued for 25 years. Additional studies in Calligraphy with the well known instructor, Fujo Minami, Tokyo, were conducted throughout her primary and high school years. After high school followed three years of intensive study at the Kuwasawa and Ootsuka Academy of Design, Tokyo, and an additional 4 years of study at the Pacific Ocean Academy of Art, Tokyo.
For the past 22 years Yoju's art studio has been at its present location in Saratoga, CA. She is a member of Aegis Gallery in Saratoga, CA and the Los Gatos Museum Gallery in Los Gatos, CA
