Description

William Parker formed this stunning Quartet in 2000, and the group has been a primary vehicle for his supreme talents as bassist, composer and bandleader since that time. They have released four highly and widely acclaimed albums: O’Neal’s Porch, Raining On The Moon, Sound Unity, and Petit Oiseau, and have engendered joy and awe in audiences around the world whenever they perform. They have toured Canada, Europe and the United States, in clubs and at major festivals. The entire history of jazz, inside out, is within their unified breath and at their collective fingertips, and they continue to create their own highly estimable chapter therein.

The core quartet expands to the Raining On The Moon sextet with Eri Yamamoto: piano and Leena Conquest: vocals, in order to give luminous life to William Parker’s deeply poetic songs, and is presented on the Corn Meal Dance album. In 2011, Parker reunited on the bandstand with pianist Cooper-Moore, and the In Order To Survive quintet is yet another striking expansion of the core. In 2013, a multi-volume box set of previously unissued recordings by the Quartet (core & expanded versions), will be released on AUM Fidelity.

Over the past decade, William Parker has consistently ranked high on critic’s polls around the world, up to and including the 2012 DownBeat Critic’s Poll.

In 2011, Parker was ranked #2 of The 25 Essential New York City Jazz Icons by TimeOut New York, and in 2007 was part of that same publication’s 50 Greatest New York Musicians Of All Time feature. A concise selection of the voluminous critical praise which the Quartet’s work has received over the past decade follows below.
