Description
Born and raised in Austin, Texas, Wayne Hancock comfortably straddles the line between country outlaw and Texas troubadour, issuing songs that move from up-tempo rockabilly numbers to love-struck ballads. Hancock has been compared to Hank Williams, Sr., (by Hank Williams III, no less), but his booze-drenched brand of hillbilly swing certainly outguns Williams when it comes to fire and brimstone. Sure, he’s traditional in a sense, but musically, Hancock moves far beyond the good-natured twang of his predecessors. His new album, Viper of Melody recalls the death of his father, the pitfall of alcoholism, and a dozen other grim, yet somehow optimistic themes.
