Vadim Gluzman, one of the foremost musicians of his generation, makes his San Francisco Symphony debut performing Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto No. 1 in a minor, Op. 77. James Gaffigan, Associate Conductor of the San Francisco Symphony, leads performances on Thursday, May 1, 2008, at 2 PM, Friday, May 2 at 8 PM, and Saturday, May 3 at 8 PM. The all-Russian program features Stravinsky’s arrangement of the “Bluebird” Pas de deux from Tchaikovsky’s The Sleeping Beauty ballet and Rachmaninoff’s Symphonic Dances. Audience members are invited to a free pre-concert talk one hour prior to each performance.Tickets are $25-120 for the Thursday and Friday performances and $25-125 for the Saturday performance, available now at http://www.sfsymphony.org.
