Description
"Everyone has a concept of transparency," writes curator Myra Block Kaiser, "from the simplicity of thin fabric or the porous openings in a sculptural work, to the concept that transparency implies the unknown or unseen." This exhibition explores these multiple definitions by bringing together a group of artists who express their understanding of transparency through a variety of mediums.

Random House Converter/Trance-Former #5 by adam (the late Paul Cotton) functions as a portal where the viewer becomes both subject and object.

Charissa Brock creates abstract architectural creations with archeological references to tools, weapons and musical instruments.

Linda Hutchins' transparent objects revolve around the struggle of holding on and letting go.

With antiquity as a foil for her beautiful manipulated fabrics, Marie-Laure Ilie addresses the question of permanency.

Ali Naschke-Messing creates lace-like words with laboriously and fragile hand-manipulated thread.

Susan Taber Avila makes physical the transparent ideas of memory. Bold words and manipulated Guatemalan photographs overlying tangible blocks of color act as triggers to invisible past experiences.

Connie Utterback examines the physicality of color, line, and form. These works based on geometric structures create spatial ambiguity and visual curiosity.

Myra Block Kaiser returns to Braunstein/Quay Gallery with her fourth exhibition, Transparencies. She is a founder of the website Fiberscene.com.
