| Description Through both serendipity and curiosity, English-born, San Francisco based artist Susannah Bettag has discovered an irresistible medium in animation and video. She has found a way to intensify the irony, beauty and sexuality of her evolving ouevre by means of an investigation of cutting edge digital projects. These new works set her world of biologically graphic minutiae in motion – striped worms, bacteria, mutating “Little Boos” and other pseudo-vegetal matter – and record in video clips the erotic confessions of half-disguised friends, confessions that delve into self discovery. Through these adventures in fresh media, Bettag infuses even deeper intimacy into our intensifying public obsessions with physical gratification and self-involvement, creating a beautiful kind of cognitive dissonance.
Several new works will play on flat panel video screens. Colorful new paintings on panel and mixed media sculptures will once again invade the walls and open spaces of the gallery. |
