The Photolab Gallery is getting ready for a big new show. For us, it's something completely different: The Spontaneous Smiley Project. Created by Ruth Kaiser, a photographer in Orinda California, who conceived of this project as a conceptual art piece. Fifty-five of Ruth Kaiser's personal Smileys come to the Photolab Gallery to spread their good cheer, holiday and otherwise.The idea is so simple - everybody gets it. The photographer says: I have always loved the classic yellow smiley face. I have always seen smiley faces in everyday objects. As an artist, my passion for photography and all things visual intersects seamlessly with the principles of social networking. At last a platform upon which artists can show their work, garner comments, connect with others. In the case of the Spontaneous Smiley Project, an invitation to everyone to experience the joy of creating art to be shared. It delights me that so many people are finding the joy in the everyday and that the Spontaneous Smiley Project has given them an outlet to share that joy.
