This will also be the qualifier for the Women of the World Poetry Slam competition. Women will have first priority at the sing up list. The Top scoring female poets will have her registration paid by the San Jose Poetry Slam and will represent our city in the upcoming WOWPS competition on March 10-13, 2010, in Columbus, OH.

This is the official San Jose Poetry Slam. An open competition that will feild a team for the 2009 National Poetry Slam. Sign up starts at 7:30 PM, Show starts at 8:00 PM. Beer provided from http://www.FaultlineBrewing.com

This months feature will be the Aerosol Love Letter Campaign. Together, Terry Taplin (Youth Speaks SF champion and CUPSI finalist), Abe Becker (Cal Grand Slam Champion, CUPSI finalist), and Matt Blesse (SF Grand Slam Champion and NPS Finalist) compose the spoken word/educational touring group known as the Aerosol Love Letter Campaign.

The artists of the Aerosol Love Letter Campaign first met as members of Cal Slam, the student spoken-word collective at UC Berkeley. As they pushed each other to grow as artists, they strove to develop as educators, organizers and activists as well. While at Berkeley, they taught weekly writing/performance workshops and produced poetry competitions and showcases on campus. Since then, they have performed and taught at countless Bay Area schools from the elementary to the university level, as well as led workshops for women’s shelters, non profit trainings, alternative education centers, and outdoor education camps. These three artists also performed their work in the Men’s Story Project (featured in the SF Indifest Film series).

Additionally, Terry, Matt, and Abe have graced the finals stage at every national level of Slam, and hold individual titles at the youth, collegiate, and adult levels. They’ve performed at the Apollo Theatre, Yerba Buena Center, Flourance Gould Theatre, Masonic Theatre, Zellerbach Theatre, and the Marin Civic Center, and they’ve shared those stages with the likes of Andrea Gibson, Mos Def, Sonya Renee, Zion I, Marc Bamuthi Joseph, Beau Sia, and ILLiteracy.

This spring, the Aerosol Love Letter Campaign is set to greet the nation with their fiercely sincere and candid performances---with aerosol cans in their fists and bullhorns in their throats they seek to facilitate the reclamation of voice and affirm that which makes us human
