I tell ya, I’m a sucker for banjos. It’s almost a forgotten art these days. The Emerald Hill has two guys who play the banjo, among other instruments. Their description also stuck out: one brown girl and two white guys. And they like to party. I like to party, too. So I was half expecting a Buster Poindexter vibe. However, this trio plays acoustic folk and indie, but with a jazzy feel here and there. Drawn out melodies with story-like lyrics make this party seem as if everyone in attendance drank too much whiskey. Sober, it’s pretty good. Drunk, hell, this is one of the best groups I’ve ever heard. This will also be a CD release show for the group. – Beau Dowling sanjose.com
