Description

My first experience with “Christian rock” was Stryper in the 80s. I can remember listening to “To Hell With The Devil” at my neighbor’s house. He was Mormon and his mom didn’t let him listen to anything she deemed “demonic.” It was alright, for that time. They had the hair and the bumble-bee spandex. My next experience was MxPx, a Christian punk band in the 90s. It was fast and poppy and they didn’t try to shove their views down my throat. The Classic Crime made a public statement about them being constantly labeled a Christian rock band because they’re signed to Tooth and Nail Records, mostly known for singing Christian acts. But what all three of these bands have in common is I don’t give two dingleberries about what they believe in, as long as the music is good. The Classic Crime meshes modern rock with tinges of emo and hardcore. They possess what so many bands lack nowadays, Christian or not: heart. Now excuse me, I must go praise Satan. –Beau Dowling sanjose.com
