Sex Work!? Like it? Hate It? Always wondered what it's all about and especially wondered what Agneta Falk might say about it? Well January is your chance to ask those questions and to enjoy a show while you do it.
The Cat's Pajamas is a monthly cabaret featuring spoken word, music, dance, and performance art acts that are an ode to the cultural aesthetics of the past. This month join us for "The Spiderdance Cabaret" our ode to the intellectual, decadent and politically charged cabarets of the 1920's Weimar culture. In honor of Lola Montez and underground of Sin City, this cabaret will explore the terrors and triumphs of the sex industry. Come and join us for a hot debate and some wild expression.
Poetry Feature: Agneta Falk is one of the most vital poets to have contributed to the underground and literary culture of San Francisco. Her many performances over the years feeding the evolution of our Beyond Beat sensibilities are too many to list. We are honored to have such a luminary perform her work speaking to the issues of sex trafficking and women's sexual identity at the Cat's Pajamas.

Sanxe Loveji: Indian but raised in London, his first break was as a VJ/performer on Britain's premiere Bhangra TV show: RHYTHM and RAAG. But according to him, his greatest moment of fame was performing at Peter Gabriel's WOMAD festival. Blending High Camp, naughtiness, traditional Indian vocal rhythms and at times, yodeling, Sanxe gives a unique performance that will tease your smile and raise the hair on your arm. He is not to be missed and you will count yourself lucky if you give him a reason to laugh.

Sex Worker Performers: Representing the other side of this hot debate will be a few folks from the industry sharing their myriad talents.

Dimestore Divas: A three woman burlesque troupe who has put the "Gutter" back in "Guttersnipe". Wild, sexy and so much fun they will make this recession seem like a gift from the gods.

John Smalley: An avant garde opera singer, musician and teacher who has won numerous fellowships and regulafly delights his neighbors with the unusual but beautiful low tones of his singing style. His passion is bringing together the understanding of languages, community, education and performance to celebrate classical music in new settings. Especially those composers like Eric Satie, Kurt Wiel and John Cage whose music has not been performed as much as it should. He makes this music as relevant now as it was when it shocked audiences all those years ago.

Elo-Mall Toomet: A poet who has performed all over the country and is back again all the way from Estonian for a mad week of reading. She believes that misfit have wings.

The Cheese Puffs: The world's first Richard Cheese-inspired burlesque troupe. We are coufrting these fine and feisty dancers who have taken Sin City by storm and if we are very lucky they will grace us with their dynamic presence.
