Description
Please come see us at the 2009 International Taiko Festival on Saturday, November 14 at 7pm. On this day, the vicinity of UC Berkeley's Zellerbach Hall will tremble from the thundering power of this world-renowned concert. For over four decades, Grand Master Seiichi Tanaka and the International Taiko Festival have brought world-class artists to the Bay Area; introducing legions of music lovers to the awe-inspiring art of taiko drums while thrilling aficionados. The International Taiko Festival is the premier showcase for taiko musicians and special guest artists from the greater Bay Area and Japan.Following the exuberant, sold-out 40th Anniversary concerts (2008), Grand Master Seiichi Tanaka and San Francisco Taiko Dojo will energize audiences with their trademark performances of traditional and contemporary rhythms, dance, and martial arts. Plus this year, San Francisco Taiko Dojo will premiere a new composition by Grand Master Tanaka.
Wako Daiko, celebrating its 35th Anniversary this year, is specially trained in the flamboyant style of Sukeroku Daiko, an ancient festival style from Tokyo that was modernized in the 1950's to highly stylized, professional performance drumming. It is a style that embodies motion and fluidity, a powerful demonstration of musicianship with physicality and agility.
