Description
Taken out of context (i.e. an Irish pub), Celtic-rock has a tendency to be a tad stifling: where else can you raise a jubilant pint of ale without looking like a total wacko? The San Francisco-based ensemble Tempest, on the other hand, knows no boundaries in terms of musical climate; the five-piece is just as likely to stir a crowd at an O’Reilly’s Pub as it is an audience at a metropolitan theater. With a repertoire built on a variety of folk mediums including Irish reels, Scottish ballads, and Norwegian folk, Tempest manages to incorporate a whirlwind of influence with seamless fluidity, all the while maintain the forlorn mood of an Irish winter.
