Peter Schattner
Sex, Love and DNA

Award winning scientist, educator and writer, Peter Schattner has 30 years of research experience spanning diverse fields from molecular biology and genetics to biomedical instrumentation and theoretical physics. He received his Ph.D. from MIT and has held research and teaching positions in computational biology, biomedical engineering and physics at the University of California, California State University, Stanford Research Institute and Diasonics, Inc., where he contributed to the early development of medical ultrasound and MRI scanners.

Peter is the author of numerous scientific articles and reviews as well as the textbook Genomes, Browsers and Databases. Sex, Love and DNA: What Molecular Biology Teaches Us About Being Human, his first book for nonscientists, was recently named the best general non-fiction book at the 2015 Great Southeast Book Festival. Peter will discuss his book Sex Love and DNA and describe how 21st-century molecular biology is revolutionizing our understanding of how we make our choices in sex and love, how we communicate, where our emotions come from, why we age and die, and other age-old questions about the human experience.
