There was a time back way back in the '90s when bands could crank out guitar-driven alternative pop songs and dominate the airwaves. The Summerland 2012 tour is plucking five of those bands right out of that decade and delivering them to the Mountain Winery this Thursday. The bands they chose are Everclear, Sugar Ray, the Gin Blossoms, Lit and Marcy Playground. Headliners Everclear produced an endless stream of polished college rock songs including "Santa Monica," "Everything to Everyone," "Father of Mine" and "I Will Buy You A New Live." You may remember main support Sugar Ray as the So Cal pop-rock outfit Mark McGrath fronted before landing the sweet gig as co-host for Extra. - Aaron Carnes sanjose.com
