A couple years back, Monterey musician Michael Glines recorded his brilliant debut solo album, Let Yourself, which combines soul, rock & roll, and a theatrical, Queen-esque wall of harmonies. Before recording the album, he'd been honing his singing chops in Korea while recovering from a vocal injury.He met a coach overseas that helped him get his groove back and his voice has become his greatest asset. But now, rather than slinging an acoustic guitar solo, Glines assembled the five-piece Sugar Sauce. They've really come into their own as an indie-soul outfit, and are releasing their own album, Dirty Work, later this year. The few glimpses they’ve offered of their material is similar to Glines' solo work, but a bit funkier and on the mellower side on things. --Aaron Carnes
