Description
Gallery1988 San Francisco is very excited to announce their upcoming show, "Strangely Mannered: A Collection Of New Paintings by Joe Vaux, Brandt Peters, Travis Louie and Scott Scheidly." The gallery will have a reception to celebrate the opening of "Strangely Mannered" on Friday, July 18th, 7-10PM.

Joe Vaux was born in Islip, New York in 1972, to two artists. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Syracuse University in 1994. He began his career in the field of animation working for the film director, Ralph Bakshi. During this time Vaux began seriously developing his unique painting style. Since then he has seen success both in publications and exhibitions, including solo and group shows. Vaux's works are surreal and possess a dark sense of humor. He currently resides in Los Angeles with his family.

Brandt Peters grew up on the West Coast amongst a family of artists. He has worked in various artistic fields, including conceptual illustrator, motion pictures, comics, and also conceptual design for the theme park industry. He began exhibiting at the urge of his wife, fellow fine artist Kathie Olivas. He has shown work in Detroit, Philadelphia, Miami, Santa Fe, and Los Angeles. He has said that the cartoon characters that embody his work "are meant to evoke a nostalgic reaction that reflects isolation, fear, and an uncertainty." Peters currently resides in Tampa, Florida.

Travis Louie was born in Queens, New York. As a child he was fascinated by Sci-Fi and Horror films. It was Louie's grandfather that encouraged his enthusiasm for art by buying him supplies and building him his first drawing table. Louie attended The Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York where he graduated with a degree from the Communication Design Department. After spending time working as a freelance illustrator, Louie decided to focus his time on showing in local galleries. Since 1992, Louie's work has been shown nationally and internationally, including shows in Italy and Germany. According to Louie, his work is mostly influenced by the lighting and atmosphere of German Expressionism and Film Noir.

Scott Scheidly, Ohio born, is a freelance artist who attended the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. His work has shown various galleries, including La Luz de Jesus, Excellent Virtu, Shooting Gallery, Uberbot, M Modern and others. His work is wonderfully bizarre. He currently resides in Florida.

"Strangely Mannered" will run July 18 - August 9, 2008. The gallery will have an opening reception for the show on Friday, July 18th, 7-10PM with the artists in attendance.
