Description
Right at the height of the nu-metal boom in 1998, Smile Empty Soul were kicking around alternative metal tunes in their garage, still in high school. By the time they'd recorded their first record in 2003, the boom had busted. That didn't stop Smile Empty Soul from pushing forward and releasing six albums, so far, getting bigger with each release. Sure, their sound is dated—there's metal and emo with a underlying hip hop groove and a layer of '80s sunset strip vocal harmonies. You have to give them credit, though, for coming up while playing a dying genre and finding success and longevity along the way. - Aaron Carnes sanjose.comMore Info
