Amateur turntablists or just fans of the art of scratching should be sure to check out Skratchpad San Jose, a monthly gathering at Paddy's, where people can take turns showing off their scratching skills or just watch as the pros show them how it's done (with both planned and improvised sets). Skratchpad started in San Francisco in 2003, with similar such events for DJs at all levels. Chapters have since cropped up all over the West Coast, with Ichy the Killer, DJ Vex and Cut Fresh running the San Jose chapter. DJ Traps, who recently won the SF Regional DMC and is heading to the nationals in New York, will be performing at Skratchpad this Wednesday, as will Lacerator KV, DJ ISO and AsthmaFunk.
