Description

Shawn Costantino is a strong jazz player, well versed in R+B, Funk, and soul music, as well as occasional music production. Shawn attended The University of Miami, and during this time Shawn was a member of numerous Down Beat award winning ensembles, working in numerous cooperate bands, and being an MD on cruise ships around the globe.

When he moved to Chicago, Shawn performed under the watchful eye of jazz masters such as Larry Novak, Bob Lark, Mark Colby, and Bob Palmieri. He played lead alto with the internationally recognized DePaul Jazz Ensemble, and backed such jazz luminaries as Phil Woods, Bobby Shew, Wynton Marsalis, Jim McNeely, Kenny Werner, John Faddis, and David “Fat Head” Newman. The band had highly successful engagements at Chicago’s Jazz Showcase and aboard Norwegian Cruise Lines, “Jazz Party at Sea.” Shawn was in several local bands that were also big in the “jam band” scene, appearing at many regional festivals and touring extensively.

Shawn currently serves as the director of jazz studies at Harvard-Westlake School in Los Angeles. He directs classes including 3 big bands, 10 combos and jazz history and improvisation. He was also the director of last year's San Jose Jazz Summer Jazz Camp. He regularly performs, tours and records with artists like the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra, Marcus Miller, Snoop Dogg, and members of the Conan O’Brien Band. His debut album, “Waltz for Anne” is currently on the jazz charts and is enjoying extensive radio play worldwide.
