SCU Battle of the Bands

Description

The High Note, San Jose Jazz and KSCU will be hosting a Battle of the Bands on Wednesday November 14th in the Locatelli Center on Santa Clara's beautiful campus. Doors open at 7 pm and first performance will be at 7:30. This concert is a fundraiser for the San Jose Jazz education program Progressions. Below is a link to a video where you can meet some of these children whom this fundraiser is benefiting. The event is FREE ADMISSION with donations highly encouraged.

How voting works: A donation table will be located in the back of the venue where you can purchase tokens to vote for whichever band you like. 1 token = 1 dollar. Place your token(s) in whatever bands jar you please. Vote as many times as you like!!! We will count all tokens at the end of the last performance and announce the winner shortly after. All donations received will be going toward San Jose Jazz Progressions.

“Conversions began with lead-singer and guitarist, Mitchell Lujan. 2 years and a couple member changes later; the band now consists of drummer Greg Brock, guitarist Joe Peifer, and bassist Michael Rubio. Conversions is a collaborative musical effort to please the ears of its' members and the music just so happens to carry a big alternative sound. Any support is acknowledged and appreciated and look out for a studio-recorded album this winter!”

“Dressed In Roses is an all girl Indie Pop band from Santa Cruz, California. Their sound is reminiscent of classic feel good pop sounds from the 60’s & 70’s delivered in a modern a modern twist combined with modern Indie influences. The band was formed on a whim in early 2012 when Jackie (aka Jackie Rocks) was looking for an outlet of songs that wouldn’t quite fit in with her hard rock band. Jackie wanted to do something musical that would also include her younger sister Madeline so Jackie wrote and rearranged songs to include piano/keyboard for her sister and recruited her close friend and school mate, Sophie who is an accomplished violinist, and who had recently started playing bass. They began tinkering and figured out that they had something quite special and began taking it out into live settings where they have been receiving very positive responses from all age groups. Together they are Dressed In Roses!”

“Since their creation in early 2009, DROP DEAD SIXTY has already been featured four times in the Silicon Valley Metro, being revered as energetic live and comparable to Stone Temple Pilots and Muse, as well as their songs featured on KSJS 90.5 FM and The Unbound Sound with Phil Toole on FCC Free Radio. They’ve also released “Exist” EP in Fall 2009, followed by their highly anticipated debut album “Anarchy of the Wicked Penguin” in Spring 2011, which was well-received by their strong San Jose fan-base. This summer, Drop Dead Sixty will release their brand new EP “Until The End.”

“Exit 11 truly began during the zero period Jazz Band class of 2009 in which guitarist and bassist Matt DeScala, guitarist Zach Agustin, and drummer Michael Veizades played. The dynamic trio made a solid friendship, an formed an extremely short-lived band called "Acronym" before disbanding after a single practice. The band finally got around to recording and performing under the new name, "Exit 11", named after the exit that the three took when they drove to school each and every morning. The band has been active ever since. During the summer of 2011, bassist Adam Weiss was found by DeScala at summer school, and he joined the band soon after. After Weiss' departure in 2012, Matt Pritchett, the lead singer of The Mongols and former rhythm guitarist of Uncommon Sense joined Exit 11 as their new bass player.”
