Description
Everything was so much simpler in the '80s. There was hair metal, thrash, punk and rap. That was about it. And by rap, I mean there was one kind of rap, no subgenres yet. Rodney-O and Joe Cooley , who'll guest at this show, were part of that first wave. They never had the star power of Run-DMC or LL Cool J, but they made some excellent, underrated tracks. "Everlasting Bass" is about as good a rap song as MCs were making back then. Lots of scratching, straight forward funky beat, lots of bass and a simple flow that was honest and poetic. - Aaron Carnes sanjose.com
