In a society comprised of immediacy and urgency Hoyer’s works speak the humbling forces of nature. The works depict Pacific island life cycles-- unpredictable and unstoppable actions superseding humanity’s complexity. His gilding method, utilizing three basic and natural materials- rabbit skin glue, gesso, and masi, mirrors nature’s simplicity and stresses the calming and sustainable aspects of a non-excessive existence. The artist creates a full circle body of work, merging the analogous themes behind the subject matter, the organic mediums and the Spartan processes he chooses.
