Description

Becoming a real writer means learning to revise. As Anne Lamott says, "There’s the down draft…the up draft… and the dental draft, where you check every tooth to see if it’s loose or cramped or decayed, or even, God help us, healthy.”

This class is for anyone who has gotten through the first draft of a short story or personal essay, but hasn’t been able to finish. Instructor Pamela Bass will help you to discover the pleasure in learning to reshape your work, to play with big rewrites and little line edits and more.

"Yes, it can be hard work," says Pamela, "but often the hardest part is just getting yourself into the chair."

Class will include brief readings of work by Raymond Carver, Anne Lamott & Natalie Goldberg, as well as group discussions, in-class writing exercises, and handouts to guide you in your future work. Each student will aim to complete a revision of one draft, and all workshopping will be done in a constructive and supportive environment.
