Description
Tony Sly's death on Aug. 1 shocked not only the South Bay, where he built his career as frontman for No Use For A Name, but the punk community around the world. It also hung a cloud over what was set to be a joyous occasion: the reunion of Steve Caballero's popular 90s pop-punk band Soda. The connections are too numerous to run down, but first and foremost was the fact that Sly himself was on the bill, set to perform what in another bizarre twist was already a benefit for the family of late South Bay scene staple Steve Larkin. However, Caballero and his bandmates have rightfully turned the show into a bit of a tribute to Sly as well, honoring him with one of his own songs in their set. Jonny Manak and the Depressives and Cova will also perform. - Steve Palopoli sanjose.com
