Realtors Release ‘Use of Technology’ Report

Social networking sites are playing a growing role in the California real estate market, according to a report by the California Association of Realtors.

Forty-six percent of realtors surveyed say that they use social networking sites, with LinkedIn (34 percent) and YouTube (13 percent) being the most popular. Though not as large as Facebook, LinkedIn's 48 million users worldwide use the site to further business opportunities through its network of first- and second-degree contacts.

Among the other features enabled by technology are the growing popularity of virtual tours of properties, which are now used by 54 percent of realtors.

For the first time ever, the Internet also became the prime driver of real estate dealings in California, accounting for 55 percent of all business. In 2008, the Internet accounted for just 48 percent of business.
