Passing On The PenGLBT Organizations Build Bridges
Between Generations of GLBT Storytellers
The Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual Transgender (GLBT) Historical Society and the Lambda Literary Foundation have joined forces to celebrate the contributions of three generations of GLBT Storytellers. The two organizations will host a series of conversations, entitled “Passing On The Pen,” designed to pair some of the pioneers of GLBT literature with today’s emerging GLBT storytellers.
Join us for our December Passing on the Pen with Jamison Green, Julia Serano, and Tristan Crane
Jamison Green (b. 1948, Oakland , CA ) is one of the founding leaders of the transgender movement. His prizewinning monograph, Becoming a Visible Man (Vanderbilt University Press, 2004), his many anthologized essays, and his international educational and policy work have had life-changing effect for many thousands of people. He holds an MFA in creative writing (University of Oregon, 1972), and his first book of short fiction (Eyes, 1976) is a valuable collector’s item.
Julia Serano is an Oakland, California-based writer, spoken word artist and trans activist. She is the author of Whipping Girl: A Transsexual Woman on Sexism and the Scapegoating of Femininity (Seal Press, 2007), a collection of personal essays that reveal how misogyny frames popular assumptions about femininity and shapes many of the myths and misconceptions people have about transsexual women. Julia’s other writings have appeared in anthologies, in feminist, pop culture and literary magazines, and have been used as teaching materials in queer and gender studies courses across the United States. http://www.juliaserano.com
Tristan Crane is a writer and photographer who owns too many pairs of striped socks and enjoys other people's cats a bit more than is rational. Tristan's first book, 'How Loathsome' with artist Ted Naifeh came out in 2004, and a second, 'Invisible' in October of 2008.
