Although they never cracked mainstream alternative rock, the Sacramento quartet Far was a 90s cult sensation. Fars brand of moody, intense, power house rock and roll influenced the emo scene, predating it by a few years. The group was, though, much more interesting and authentic than the radio bands that followed them. After Far broke up, lead singer Jonah Matranga went solo under the moniker onelinedrawing. The music was more diverse, including a bit of folk, dance music, metal and indie rock. What connects his songs is the same intense honesty and vulnerability that propelled Far. Onelinedrawing has that, but toned down, or rather, more selective about when to be outwardly intense.
