GuyWriters and the Queer Open Mic are partnering to celebrate National Poetry Month with three events this April. The event, titled “My First Love: Gay poets Celebrate the Poets Who Inspired Them,” will bring together a diverse list of poets reading at three different venues in San Francisco. The poets will not only read their own work, but the poetry of the poets that have inspired them. Attendees will also have the opportunity to read one original poem or a poem by their favorite poet during the open mic portion of the event. The events will be hosted by James J. Siegel, director of GuyWriters; and Baruch Porras-Hernandez, co-organizer of the Queer Open Mic. All events are free. The Martuni’s event has a one-drink minimum.

“My First Love” kicks off April 4 at Books Inc. in the Castro (2275 Market St.) at 7 PM.
Readers for the night include Kevin Simmonds (Mad for Meat, Collective Brightness),Greg Pond (After Moon, Blackened Blue), Amy Dentata, Nick Chin. Special guests will be included.

Since 2004 The San Francisco Queer Open Mic has been celebrating local queer performers and from around the country with featured writers, artists, and musical acts. It is held on the fourth Friday of every month and is hosted by Baruch Porras-Hernandez and Blythe Baldwin.
