Description
Koret Visiting Artist SeriesWu Hsing-Kuo
April 13, 2008 from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Internationally acclaimed choreographer and performer Wu Hsing-Kuo is recognized for his unique interpretation of Shakespeare's King Lear, in which he plays all ten roles himself. During this special event, he will demonstrate the intricacies of performing this piece, including changing from character to character in swift succession, playing both male and female roles, defining identity through varied movement and singing styles, and stunning audiences with the spectacular physical stunts that so well characterize Peking Opera.
This multimedia presentation will focus on interdisciplinary elements, including Chinese opera styles, Buddhist chanting, contemporary music and electronics, Western performance styles, and traditional theater.
The Koret Foundation presents a series of exciting panel discussions at A.C.T. Each panel features acclaimed artists who illuminate the ways in which a theater affects and strengthens a community, the responsibilities of the artist in modern society, and the challenges of the creative process.
All Koret events are free and open to the public.
