Description

New Orleans gets a lot of attention for its musical heritage, but Baton Rouge was also critical, particularly with the development of the "swamp blues" sound. The music gained attention in the '50s with artists like "Lightnin' Slim" and Slim Harpo, and was actually be a big influence on the 1960s British invasion. Keeping the sound alive is Baton Rouge native Kenny Neal, whose father, Raful Neal, was a well-known Baton Rouge swamp blues harmonica player. Kenny's brother plays bass with him, and has since they were teenagers. His cousin, Tyree, is also in the band. This is the real deal. (Aaron Carnes)
