Description
What would Alfred Taubman, billionaire retailing pioneer, say about the contemporary art gallery experience? What would he say about threshold resistance and the austere white cube, the gallerinas, and the 'curious economics of contemporary art?' Take it one step further, at PING PONG GALLERY this month, what would he say about Joshua Pieper’s exhibition EVERYTHING MUST GO? What would he say about art in a “Bargain Bin?” Art “Half Price?”Subtle and wry, the show juxtaposes drawings with found objects. 'Ideas are exchanged as commodities, and refer to themselves in a simple, matter of fact language.' Joshua Pieper does not attempt to break down the threshold resistance; rather, through his works on paper and carefully considered sculptures, Pieper places commerce at the very center of his exhibition EVERYTHING MUST GO. Pieper makes physical the very psychological force that exists between art and commerce.
