Description

"The Most Frightening Drummer I have Ever Heard." -Prince

At 18 months old Jacob Armen entered the world of jazz music. Playing drums alongside his father, Albert Armen, with his keyboards, the two took center stage at the family's restaurant, the Magic Lamp. By age 6 Jacob was performing with CSUN's 20-piece jazz ensemble conducted by Professor of Music and Jazz Studies, Joel Leach.

With Professor Leach as mentor, numerous television and radio interviews followed including ABC's Good Morning America, NBC's Today Show, and Johnny Carson's Tonight Show, where Jacob performed with Doc Severinson and his 17-piece jazz band. In just two short years, at the age of 8, Jacob had performed with jazz ensembles around the world.

During this time, Prince had discovered Jacob and signed him for 7 years as an artist for Paisley Park Enterprises, which later became NPG Records. Prince was quoted mentioning in an interview that Jacob was “the most frightening drummer” he had ever heard. At age 12, Jacob cut his highly sought after first solo album Drum Fever which is now a collectable on E-Bay for up to $280.00. Albert Armen produced and co-engineered the album, and Jacob worked with special guest artists such as: Alphonso Johnson, Alex Acuña, Freddie Ravel, Larry Steelman, Eric Leeds on sax and CSUN’s 17-piece Jazz ensemble conducted by Professor Joel Leach.

When his contract ended, Jacob went on to form his own record label, JAAB Records, and cut his 2nd album, Breakthrough. Now, Jacob Armen is coming back strong and is in the process of releasing his highly anticipated double-album When Drums Conduct! This brilliant collaboration features guest appearances by some of the industry's finest musicians and world-renowned GRAMMY Award winning artists such as: Daron Malakian, Victor Wooten, Poncho Sanchez, Patrick Moraz, Djivan Gasparyan, The USC Trojan Marching Band and Lark Choir.
