It’s tough to say exactly when it happened, but somewhere between 2002 and 2008, emo-rockers grew chest-hair. Thick, furry chest hair. How do I know this? I’ve just been listening to bands like I Am Empire, which seem intent on disproving the notion that “emotional” doesn’t have to equal melancholy. In fact, there are dozens of other perfectly worthy emotions (such as anger and rage) that can be exhibited by dudes in tight jeans. The San Jose quintet embraces its inner fury wholeheartedly— without losing the sentiment. Somebody get a comb, this could get ugly.
