Description
What is it about two-piece bands and heavy blues rock that go together so well? Portland's Hopeless Jack and the Handsome Devil are the latest in the wave of primitive rock duos to hit the scene. They, however, stand on their own two (or four) feet. They play with a heavier blast of energy than the Black Keys and are down-and-dirtier than the White Stripes. They deliver dingy, punk-fueled traditional blues. Hopeless Jack (the singer/guitarist) has a gruff scowl of a voice. This is nihilist roots-rock for people bored with classic rock.
