Tessa ten Tusscher is the co-founder and CEO of Living Well – Assisted Living at Home. Dr. ten Tusscher was Vice President for the Institute on Aging (IOA) (www.ioaging.org) where she worked in leadership and intrapreneurial activities for 10 years. She directed over 250 staff in clinical, care-management, marketing, and homecare departments, and managed an annual budget of $20M. The Institute on Aging enables 20,000 frail and low-income seniors to remain in their own homes through providing a menu of homecare, health care, day programs, care-management, wellness and mental health initiatives. It is the largest non-profit focused on senior care in the Bay Area. In this role, Tessa opened several new departments, including the marketing and sales department, a comprehensive geriatric assessment service, a psychology department, a professional education department and, in collaboration with the San Francisco District Attorney’s office and the Department of Aging Services, an elder abuse forensic center.
Tessa is a licensed clinical psychologist who specializes in working with older adults. A seasoned entrepreneur, Tessa was President and CEO of Bay Area Psychological Testing Associates (www.bapta.com), the largest psychological diagnostics company in Northern California. She is often called to provide expert testimony in criminal and civil cases related to aging. Tessa has done numerous media presentations on topics related to aging, appearing on NPR radio programs and KQED TV. She also teaches extensively for community groups and professional organizations. Recent audiences include the California Bar Association, the California Chartered Accountants Association, the National Association of Adult Protective Service Organizations, and the Commonwealth Club.
Her prior experience includes being a training psychologist, a Visiting Scholar at UC-Berkeley, and a private practice geropsychologist. Tessa holds two PhDs, one in Clinical Psychology from the Center for Psychological Studies in Berkeley and one in Political Science from Leeds University in the UK.
