Description

Guest curated by Chris Sicat, Gold Rush brings together works by nationally and internationally recognized artists to explore the history of Northern California and the symbolism of gold. The exhibition showcases California history in conjunction with contemporary art, sports, and culture.
Through the work of well-known artists the exhibition encourages visitors to reconsider the place of gold in our society, especially in light of its transformative role in California's history. Gold Rush strategically coincides with SuperBowl 50, which will be hosted in the City of Santa Clara in February 2016. Often considered the "gold anniversary," the 50th SuperBowl championship game provides an opportune moment to explore the impact and cultural associations with gold in this region. Through the work of contemporary artists and historical objects, Gold Rush touches upon themes of illusion, reality, hope, and greed, examining them within the context of the history of California and its great achievements.
