Description
San Jose Jazz continues its Blues Thursday with GG Amos, a fixture on the Bay Area scene now, after growing up in Sacramento. While many artists play the West Coast sound, she represents, with the same passion that rappers call out their area code. In fact, her most recent single is simply called "West Coast," and pays tribute to one of the legends of the sound, Johnny Heartsman. The funny thing is that the song won't match many listeners' pre-conceived notions about West Coast blues, especially if they're only familiar with the up-tempo jump style. This song is as cool and sultry as it gets, but that's Amos. As a guitarist and vocalist she's almost neo-soul, but her jazz influences and heavenly vocals ground her unmistakably in the West Coast tradition. - Steve Palopoli sanjose.com
