Description
Hawaiian slack key guitarist George Kuo has been mesmerizing audiences with his mellow music and aloha spirit since the '70s, when he took up the instrument after hearing his friend Antone Gabriel strum the guitar in the style of his grand uncle, the legendary Albert Kawelo. As far as style goes, Kuo leans towards the polished sound of the 1930s, preferring simplicity over fancy scales and runs. Says Kuo, "I play a lot on my porch late at night—I enjoy the sound of the guitar in the still of the night." I can almost hear the ocean now.
