CREATIVEMINDSSF ART EXHIBIT FEATURIN BAY AREA EMERGING ARTISTS INCLUDING THE CANVAS OF HOPE PROJECT
Mezzanine presents an extraordinary night of music and art featuring multi-faceted DJ Four Tet and San Francisco’s own Maus Haus. The evening will begin with a group fine art exhibit produced by CreativemindsSF featuring 30 Bay Area artists, including the artists/medical students that created The Canvas of Hope Project on Saturday, May 31st.
Kieran Hebden started-out as guitarist for UK band Fridge; his eclectic electronic stylings are heard under moniker Four Tet. Opening and remixing for Radiohead, Supper Furry Animals, Aphex Twin, and Battles amongst others, Kieran teamed-up with Legendary jazz drummer Steve Reid collaborating on two albums and Four Tet’s latest release Ringer. Continuing to expand his compositional palette, Ringer suffuses the listener with abstract melodies and densely layered dance friendly tracks.
The seven members of San Francisco’s Maus Haus dive in-and-out of instrumental orchestrations where anything goes. The band’s tonal attitude ranges from soothing to quirky and cheeky, with laid-back post-punk vocals.
This motley crew of musicians live stage performance will definitely intrigue the finical ear.
Founder Nick Santoro developed CreativemindsSF as a platform to showcase emerging Bay Area artists and musicians. This exhibit is CreativemindsSF’s 5th show featuring the works of over 30 visual artists in the genres of painting, sculpture, photography, and printmaking (artist list below). Nick is a Fine Art major with an emphasis in printmaking at San Francisco State University, he also resides as Vice President of SFSU’s Print Guild, and works at Triple Base Gallery in the Mission.
The Canvas of Hope project was developed by medical students/artists at Touro University.”Using microscopes we all had the chance to see cancer on a cellular level, and what we saw was something akin to abstract art.” Their gallery contains canvases of breast cancer microscopy from anonymous slides. Some of these original and meaninful works will be displayed as part of the CreativemindsSF exhibit. All proceeds from Canvas of Hope will be donated to the American Cancer Society’s Breast Cancer Programs. For more information, visit http://www.canvasofhope.org
