Anza Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society will feature a presentation by Bob and Judy Mathey on their Harmony Woods garden, located in Mendocino, California.
The Harmony Woods garden, nestled into a cathedral of redwoods, reflect a penchant for collecting an enormous range of unusual and beautiful plants. The emphasis is on rhododendrons and conifers, with over 300 specimens of each, but they are a small part of a vast array of plant material gracing over twenty beds. A newly created waterfall and stone bridge area have been planted with mature rhododendrons, maples, and ferns. The presentation will emphasize the exuberance of rhododendrons seen in ways other than flowers, the influence of parentage in hybrids, the uses of rhododendrons in garden design, and a few slides on the construction of the waterfall. In this program, you can learn how a garden is established.
Judy Mathey at one time was the president of the board for the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens.
