Description

Vocals that drip sensuality and a polished piano technique have solidified Sao Paulo-born composer-arranger Eliane Elias' place in the pantheon of music giants. "She looks like Gloria Steinem in her Playboy bunny days, plays like the late great Bill Evans, and sings in warm, dreamy tones like Julie London cross-pollinated with Chet Baker." --Rex Reed (Her husband and collaborator, Marc Johnson was the bass player in pianist Bill Evans’ last rhythm section.)

All Eliane's recordings went top five on Billboard and the radio charts in the U.S., with many reaching number one. She recently received yet another Grammy nomination for her Best Brazilian song “What about the Heart.” At this performance she will be performing from a CD due for May release on Concord: I Thought About You: A Tribute to Chet Baker, described as combining the sensuous, sun-splashed melodicism of Brazil with the harmonic sophistication of New York City.

On-stage she is mesmerizing. "You get stunned. Simultaneously powerful and fragile Eliane Elias is pretty, mature, innocent and lively, a great songwriter and pianist. Her ability to keep rhythm with her left hand and melodies with the right is simply staggering. Then her voice -- sensual Brazilian, and so effective." -H. Sopena Angel, reviewer.
